East Meets West
Most sessions will contain a mix of East meets West massage modalities in order to serve your needs at the time of your appointment. You can find a description of the types of massage I will integrate, or that you can request, below.
Very relaxing and therapeutic style of bodywork with a slow and steady pace. It combines oils or lotion with an array of strokes such as rolling, kneading, and percussion to help the body improve its circulation. The benefits of this type of bodywork are wide-ranging and include relief from aches and pains, decreased stress levels in the body, enhanced mental clarity, and greater flexibility. Overall focus on relaxation over muscle tension.
Traditional Deep Tissue Massage is a form of bodywork that aims to relieve tension in the deeper layers of tissue in the body. Deep Tissue Massage is a highly effective method for releasing chronic stress areas due to misalignment, repetitive motions, and past lingering injuries. Due to the nature of the deep tissue work, open communication during the session is crucial. Keep in mind that soreness is common after the treatment, and that we should drink plenty of water to aid with the flushing and removal of toxins that will have been released from the deep tissue during the session.
Shiatsu is a Japanese form of massage therapy later adopted in China. The word Shiatsu comes from two Japanese words - "shi" (finger) and "atsu" (pressure). In addition to the direct stimulation of pressure points along the energy pathways of your body, gentle stretching techniques are applied over a wider area of the body to integrate the point work and encourage the flow of Chi (energy) throughout the body. Shiatsu is an Eastern style of meditative healing arts that honors the body, mind and spirit.
Sports Massage is a type of massage designed for highly active people who engage in athletics. Engaging in sports is harsh on the body and can often lead to injuries in both the short and long term. Sports Massage enhances performance and prolongs a sports career by helping to prevent injury, reduce pains and swelling in the body, relax the mind, increase flexibility, and dramatically improve recovery rates. Sports Massage is also highly effective in aiding the rapid recovery of an athlete from an injury by encouraging greater kinesthetic awareness and in turn promoting the body's natural immune function. Sports Massage sessions are typically 30 minutes or less, however, it can be integrated into other massage modalities to increase in length of time.
Myofascial massage is a deep tissue technique used to treat injuries and discomfort, reducing pain and increasing range of motion. Myofascial massage differs from other types of massage in that it targets the fascia - the membrane surrounding muscles. Since fascia completely encases every muscle in the body, imbalances in the fascia can have serious effects on your range of motion and comfort level. While other forms of massage can overlook the fascia, myofascial massage focuses specifically on releasing tension in this important membrane.

Acupressure is based on one the most ancient principles of healing - that simply touching a specific point on the body will release stress and improve health in the body. In an acupressure session, I apply pressure directly to these points on your body, which relieves your muscle tension and improves your circulation as well as balancing your Chi along the meridians of the body related to each system including lung, stomach, heart, large intestine, small intestine, etc. This simple and powerful technique has been shown to be very effective in treating body-wide dis-ease including headaches, backaches, infertility and insomnia.
Lymphatic Drainage Therapy aims to gently and rhythmically move the lymph through the body, especially swollen areas of the body, relieving pressure and enhancing the functioning of the immune system. As both a preventative and remedial technique, Lymph-sage can be used for a wide range of purposes including faster recovery from injury, reduction of swelling and discomfort from pregnancy, and strengthened resistance to illness. The after effects of Lymph-sage reflect detoxification and drainage through the ears, sinuses, bowels, and sweat glands.
Thai massage is more energizing and rigorous than most other forms of massage therapy. Thai Massage increases stretching and rhythmic compressions throughout the work. A single Thai massage session will help you release stress and relieve pain, as well as increasing mental clarity and effectiveness.
With guided imagery we use the power of our imaginations to evoke positive images to stimulate healing and produce positive experiences and changes in a person’s life. I guide you through this effective method to manage conditions, including pain, tension, fear, anxiety, grief and stress.
